Programme for this year’s Día de Andalucia in Manilva

Diá de Andalucia is celebrated each year on 28th February. The day  marks the anniversary of a referendum held in 1980 when Andalucía became an autonomous community in Spain. Traditionally, everyone dresses in green and white.

The event is often marked with celebrations in each town within Andalucia. Here in Manilva, the celebrations are held in Calle Mar in front of the town hall or, in the event of bad weather, in the sports centre.

The programe for this years celebrations are as follows:-

11.30 Manilva band march through the streets

12.00 Civic ceremony in front of the town hall, followed by the raising of the Andalucian flag. This is accompanied by the singing of the andalucian hymn by the choirs of Manilva and Sabinillas.

12.30  – Performances by the Manilva  Band, Sabinillas Church Choir,  Manilva Church Choir, and Eva Cabrera Dance School.

1.30 – Performance by the Luisana Association (disabled association) who have apparently prepared something very special, followed by a performance from Manilva’s music school  orchestra.

16.00 – Flamenco by the Cristina Seguín Dance School.

17.00 – Performance by Municipal Dance School directed by Ana Guerrero

18.00 –  The Music School Orchestra close the show.

dia de andlucia

Hopefully the weather will be good (although typically, rain is forecast!) as there is normally a real party atmosphere in Manilva on Andalucia day. Many of the bars open out onto the street and its a really pleasant way to spend the afternoon.

Remember that it is a bank holiday throughout Andalucia so most shops and businesses will be closed.
